How to Decorate and Organize Your Apartment Balcony

How to Decorate and Organize Your Apartment Balcony

Most people focus their apartment decorating attention on their bedroom and main living area. If they have a balcony, they usually relegate it to being a boring, bare space or extra storage.

Yet, to make the most of your apartment, you should direct some of your efforts to your balcony. The right touches can create you an excellent relaxation spot as well as offer some extra storage.

With that in mind, here are some ways to decorate and organize your apartment balcony.

1. Add a Cozy Chair/Bench and a Small Table

Instantly make your balcony a more enjoyable place to spend time by adding some seating and a table. You can enjoy your morning coffee, read a book, or people watch (or all three) with the right chair and table setup.

If you get a chair, make sure it folds in case you need to store it.

Alternatively, you could install a bench. Then you won’t have to worry about your seating blowing away.

2. Create a Mini Outdoor Room

If your local climate isn’t prone to inclement weather, take #1 a step further and create a mini-room on your balcony.

Of course, it never hurts to get furniture made of weather-resistant materials in case of a storm.

3. Balcony Railing Shelf

If you’re balcony’s too small for a table AND chairs, then turn your railing into a table with a shelf. It’s a great spot to eat dinner outdoors or have drinks and watch the sunset.

4. Interlocking Tiles

The unseen part of your balcony (from the outside) matters, too.

Most apartment balconies have a bland, boring concrete floor. Not very cozy. But you can beautify any balcony space by adding interlocking deck tiles.

These tiles are easy to put in place, yet make your balcony look more inviting. Plus, if you ever move out, removing the tiles is simple.

5. Add Greenery

Greenery is a classic balcony decoration to give you that backyard feeling, even if you live in a downtown apartment. Line the fence with some plants, and consider adding some hanging pots as well. You could create a planter wall too to expand your greenery around the space.

And of course, put a plant or two at the center of your balcony’s table.

6. Double Up Seating and Storage

Make the most of your small balcony space by combining your seating with your storage space. You can find storage seats and storage benches all over the Internet.

These types of seating have storage space underneath them for you to put items. Maybe you have you want a book selection for when you’re lounging on your balcony. Or perhaps your apartment is small and you need a bit of extra room. In either case, storage seating will suit you well.

7. Add a Fabric Canopy

Want a nice, cool, shady outdoor spot to work or read? Shut out the harshest of the sun’s rays by installing a fabric canopy above your balcony.

While you’re add it, consider adding some fabric lights to your canopy. They’ll add a stylish touch during the day, and provide soft, pleasant lighting at night.

8. Add a Kiddie Pool

Living in a building without a pool? Can’t make it to the beach? If you’re a fan of the water, bring it to you by adding a kiddie pool to your balcony. It’s a fairly inexpensive way to enjoy the warm weather and personalize your apartment balcony.
